What are the time commitments for shadowing?

Students are required to complete one 4-hour shadowing shift every other week during the semester. Shadowing shifts are available 7 days a week, for 19 hours of the day, from 8 am until 3 am. At the beginning of the semester, each student will will reserve a day of the week and a 4-hour shift that they can make every other week without fail. That will be their shift time for the semester.

Can I take MedPrep I and MedPrep II in the summer?

Unfortunately, MedPrep I is no longer offered during the summer semester. Therefore, to take MedPrep II in the summer you must have already completed MedPrep I in a previous semester.

Can I take MedPrep II if I attend another University?

Unfortunately, no. Only WU undergraduate students and WU Post-Bac Premedical students are eligible to take MedPrep II.

Can students shadow more than every other week?

Yes, space permitting.

Is there a classroom component in MedPrep II?

Yes. There is a class session every other Friday from 5:30-6:20 pm during the Fall semester. Class attendance is required.

If I am going to be out of town during the week that I am supposed to shadow, can I reschedule my shadowing shift? What about the required class for that week?

Yes, if you will be out of town during your shadowing week you will be permitted to reschedule your missed shift for a future week. Students are also permitted to miss one class session as well. 

I would like to take MedPrep II in the summer. Can I also do research at the same time?

It depends. Some summer-funded research programs will not allow students to enroll in other courses at the same time. If you are considering doing research during the summer, please check with the specific program and/or research PI before registering for MedPrep II.

I would like to take MedPrep II in the summer. Is it possible to take another (non-research) class at the same time?

MedPrep II has no homework or exams. For this reason, MedPrep II can be taken with the busiest of course schedules as long as the student can find a 4-hour shadowing time they can consistently make every other week AND make the weekly class.
